Growing, Developing, Travelling & (Baby) Showering

Just a quick post to update on the latest developments with Rocco. He is 21 weeks this Thursday. At his 4 month appt. about a month ago, he weighed 17 lbs. 3 oz and was 26 inches long. Both are in the 90th percentile. His head is in the 25th percentile so he has a peanut head like me and Nathan. But it doesn't look out of proportion to his body. At that appt., the Dr. told us to start to feeding him different cereals with a spoon. He didn't seem to mind the rice cereal and the brown rice cereal. The mixed grains one was OK but he did NOT like the oatmeal. I don't blame him on that one. We moved on to the first of the green vegetables this past Friday. We started with green beans and will then move on to peas and then orange/yellow veggies. He doesn't seem to mind the green beans now but he gave some weird looks at first and even shook his head in disgust the first time. I can't wait to let him taste the yummy fruits after he tries all of the veggies. He goes back to the Dr. at the 6 month mark.

His vision is continuing to develop more and more. He focuses better and from farther differences. The eye Dr. said his fixation and following of objects will continue to improve with age.

Today, my mother-in-law noticed that he is cutting his first tooth. And tonight, Nathan said he sees two! This is kind of early but it doesn't surprise me. He's been drooling like crazy and CONSTANTLY puts EVERYTHING in his mouth. And he's been chewing on my shoulder when I hold him. He's starting to try to figure out how to crawl. He can kind of push himself forward while on his stomach. And I think he'll be an early walker.

Everyone comments on how strong he is - even the Dr. I jokingly call him Thor or Brutus. He's got a grip that is insane for such a small being. He is a very happy baby and laughs and smiles all of the time. His smile lights up his whole face and instantly make you smile (and it melts your heart!). Graham seems to be even more into Rocco lately since he's developing a personality. It's so cute to see them together - smiling at one another. Graham is so good with him and is constantly saying, "Look at him!" with everything that Rocco does.

All of the Meyers traveled to Allen, TX to visit Nathan's sister and her family. The oldest granddaughter also graduated high school while we were there. It was a nice trip but I felt like we were in the car for most of the weekend. Rocco did pretty good on the 9 hour drive (we broke it up each way). He only had one really bad hour-long cryfest. Graham is an awesome traveler. Give that kid a portable DVD player and some movies and he's set. And he barely has to pee so there's not a lot of extra stopping for that. He was a big help trying to calm Rocco when he did fuss here and there.

Last weekend was a baby shower for my friends, Becky and Dustin,. They are expecting a baby boy in July. It was a couples shower and I think there were more kids there than adults. It was cool to see Rocco interact with his fellow Winter 2010 babies, Matthew Baker and Taylor Swain. It was so cute to see them together. I can't wait to meet baby Kaelen too!

Tomorrow I have to go out of town for work for 4 days. It will be my first time being away from Rocco. I am trying not to think about it. I'll be bringing my camera so I can watch videos of him to calm me when I'm missing him like something fierce. It will be nice to have some time at night though to workout or read a book - things I don't usually have time for these days. But I'd rather not go if I had a choice.

Here are some recent pictures (some from the above mentioned stuff):
